Details

Konstantin Grcic opens the Extrusions collection which he has designed for BD Barcelona design with this table, baptised as Table B. Its name is as simple and technical as the design itself. Grcic has been inspired by classic BD pieces, such as the Hypóstila shelf unit (in production since 1979), in developing a tabletop of extruded aluminium with a minimal profile and for lengths of up to 500 cm. It is offered in various finishes and with three models of legs. Suitable for indoor and outdoor areas. Its apparent simplicity hides a complex technical development in which senior engineers have been involved. In counterpoint, the production also includes several manual processes. The result is a highly crafted piece with all the character of the German designer. Launched in 2012.

Born in Munich in 1965.
Many of Konstantin Grcic´s products have received international design awards and form part of the permanent collections of the world´s most prestigious museums.Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humour. Each of his products is characterized by his careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.

Since its origins in the 1970’s, BD has always been an atypical company. Its founders and still current owners, who come from an architectural background rather than the business field, have oriented BD’s production from the very start by cultivating beauty, in some cases above their function. Accompanied with artisanal processes instead of mass production, the new products always have more proximity to art than industrial design. Characterised by superior quality, short-series productions (and on occasion limited editions), and unique pieces due to crafted manufacturing. In the 80’s, BD pleasantly surprised by editing Gaudí’s furniture for his famous buildings and in the early 90’s, BD again astounded by introducing an exclusive first collection of furniture and lamps designed by Dalí. Recently the Collections and Designers with an accentuated artistic profile like Jaime Hayon and Doshi Levien, continue to point the way where design and art meet together.
