Details

Made of injection-moulded polypropylene with a stainless steel or chromed steel rod frame, Aida stackable chair was the very first fruit of the collaboration between Magis and Richard Sapper, international master of design. This chair combines technical innovation with a rigorous form, and was developed over an extremely lengthy timescale, seeking out the perfection and rigour that are a hallmark of all Sapper’s work. Born in Germany, but inextricably tied to Milan and Italian design culture, Sapper has worked with all the main designers and the major Italian and international companies (including acting as design consultant for IBM), designing a multitude of products to be found in the permanent collections of the world’s most important museums. He has also been awarded the Compasso d’Oro ten times for his products, and another Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement in 2014. Year: 2000.

Richard Sapper was born in 1932. After pursuing courses in philosophy, anatomy, and engineering, he graduated with a business degree from the University of Munich. Sapper’s main interest in his design work has centered on technically complex problems. He has developed and designed a wide variety of products, ranging from ships and cars, to computers and electronics, furniture and kitchen appliances.Throughout his career, Sapper has remained keenly involved in academia, teaching and lecturing at universities all over the world. Richard Sapper has received numerous awards for his products, and his designs are represented in the permanent collections of many museums around the world.

Magis was established in 1976 in the north east of Italy, one of Europe's most dynamic industrial areas. Its success is based on the desire to provide a broad swathe of users with access to high functional and technological quality products for the home, developed in partnership with major international designers, with a vision of the resulting products that is ethical and poetic as well as aesthetic.

Magis products are dedicated to their international public and are all 100% “Made in Italy”: a guarantee of high quality, in line with the firm's tradition, which has developed from its craftsmanship and cultural roots, through the evolving styles and industrial growth of the eighties and nineties, and continues to comprise one of the company's greatest and most valuable assets.
