Details

Of Konstantin Grcic (Munich, 1965) his colleagues say that he is the new Achille Castiglioni. They recognise in him the marks of genious that the master left in his designs, the capacity to innovate with shapes and his outstanding profile as an industrial designer. Grcic represents perfection; he works thinking of industry and makes art out of it. Today he is one of the most influential designers of the world. Established designers recognise him and the new and youngest adore him. He has his own style which cannot be compared to that of anyone else. It is recognised in the functionality and simplicity of his designs, which are apparent, because concealed behind them there is always a lesson in technique.

Born in Munich in 1965.
Many of Konstantin Grcic´s products have received international design awards and form part of the permanent collections of the world´s most prestigious museums.Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humour. Each of his products is characterized by his careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.

Since its origins in the 1970’s, BD has always been an atypical company. Its founders and still current owners, who come from an architectural background rather than the business field, have oriented BD’s production from the very start by cultivating beauty, in some cases above their function. Accompanied with artisanal processes instead of mass production, the new products always have more proximity to art than industrial design. Characterised by superior quality, short-series productions (and on occasion limited editions), and unique pieces due to crafted manufacturing. In the 80’s, BD pleasantly surprised by editing Gaudí’s furniture for his famous buildings and in the early 90’s, BD again astounded by introducing an exclusive first collection of furniture and lamps designed by Dalí. Recently the Collections and Designers with an accentuated artistic profile like Jaime Hayon and Doshi Levien, continue to point the way where design and art meet together.
