Quick Overview

PRODUCT INFORMATION
Table lamp with diffused light. The base, which contains and conceals the light source, consists of two injection-moulded translucent opaline polycarbonate cups. The PMMA “bubble” at the top is achieved using an injection-blowing technique for the manufacturing of hollow items in two stages. The initial injection process produces a semi-machined thermoplastic ovule which during the second stage is blown as air at very high pressure is introduced into a metal mould reproducing a negative of the end product; this technique is very similar to glass blowing. on/off switch on the transparent cable.

The name Yoko reveals the nature of this object: two similar yet different syllables, like the two volumes with soft outlines that intersect and complete each other, producing a light, balanced whole. Yoko revolutionises the archetype of a table lamp, placing the light body at the bottom - rather than at the top - and an iridescent bubble on top of it. The lamp is made of polymethylacrylate with blow moulding technology, which creates an object that is both light and unbreakable, functional and poetic. In choosing colours for Yoko the two Norwegian designers Anderssen&Voll were inspired by Nordic light. The transparent body is tinged with delicate shades that are barely noticeable: three gentle shades that interact with a heart of intense light.

Anderssen & Voll is an Oslo based design studio led by Torbjørn Anderssen (1976) and Espen Voll (1965). Torbjørn and Espen were cofounders of Norway Says. Since the start up in 2009, their work has spanned from textile design through tableware and furniture to electronics for some of Europe’s most renowned international design brands.

Foscarini focuses on developing new products but chooses only to put into production those that express new ideas. While inspiration is always valued, Foscarini’s development phase sometimes takes years of progressive research to analyze materials, shapes, processes and operating modes that sometimes lead to results drastically different from the initial concept.

This is why Foscarini lamps are so innovative yet built to weather the whim of trends and become true classics.
